When it comes to making good music there are certain key components that make the music. Time, feel, groove and pulse are all part of what makes the drummer important to the sound. Understanding what the artist wants and the musicality, is why Tyrone Hendrix is one of the more sought after drummers in the industry.
Born and raised in Oakland, California, a city rich with musical history, from the Hawkins Family, Sheila E to Tony Toni Tone, and Con Funk Shun, Tyrone got his beginning in church. He honed his skilled in high school with the renowned Castlemont Castleers.
In 2004, Tyrone Hendrix relocated to Portland, expanding his sound to include hip-hop, jazz, funk, soul, and Americana. A dedicated student of music and drumming, he gives back through drum clinics and lessons for emerging artists while maintaining an active career in both studio work and live performance.
He released his debut full-length album Rhythm On Life Vol. 1 in 2016, followed by Rhythm On Life Vol. 2 in 2019, earning the 2019 SoulTracks Reader’s Choice Award for New Artist of the Year. Today, Tyrone performs his original work and collaborates with artists including the Portland Cello Project, Mike Phillips, Liv Warfield, and many others worldwide, and has shared the stage with legends like Stevie Wonder and Prince.
The Yacht Rock Allstars will feature LaRhonda Steele, Arietta Ward, JP Downer, Kenton Davey, and members of the Allen Stone Band—including Blake Braley, Tristen Hart Pierce, and Tyrone Hendrix.
