“Many people find it hard to show something new within the electric blues format, and they should ask The Strange Tones for some private lessons, as they have found their own niche and truly shine.” – The Voice of the Blues
Rather than plundering the shrines of American music and merely imitating their heroes, these sonic crime fighters have concocted their own secret formula, a one-of-a-kind style they call “Crime-A-Billy.” The band draws upon the rich traditions of blues, rockabilly, surf, R&B, mixed with film noir sonic hues, and combines these ingredients with well-crafted songwriting and dynamic performances. The magic of this ensemble is fueled by four players who are equally compelled and driven to advance their cause. Led by the husband-and-wife team of guitarist Julie and bassist Andy Strange, and fortified by longtime partners guitarist Suburban Slim and drummer Andy Gauthier, this group forms “…one of Portland’s most original and accomplished bands,” according to The Oregonian.
The Strange Tones’ fiery, unique sound and outstanding musicianship has earned the band multiple awards and entry into the Cascade Blues Association Hall of Fame. Rooted in the wild Pacific Northwest, this fearsome foursome has a unique and secret weapon, The Volcano Vixens, who will be joining forces with the band at this special Waterfront Blues Festival kickoff performance. Vivian and Vanna Vixen are amazingly talented dancers and choreographers who have created the perfect steps and moves to compliment the band’s sonic crime-fighting sound.
