Pat Stilwell discovered the guitar at the age of 30, as an outlet from the stress of engineering school, and developed his unique style playing along with his record collection. In the 1980’s, Stilwell joined his first blues band in Seattle, and found himself shortly thereafter playing the clubs in Pioneer Square. In Seattle, he recorded his first all-original CD, Kaleidoscope. Along the way, Stilwell picked up the violin and discovered Papa John Creach and Sugar Cane Harris.
Since moving to Portland in 2009, Stilwell has worked into the local blues and rock scenes, formed the Pat Stilwell Band, and recorded his second all-original CD, Tales From the Riverside. Adding horns and a second guitar, Stilwell recently formed the Blues Alliance for expanded performances of his original material. The Blues Alliance features Stilwell as leader, Jeff Knudsen sharing guitar duties, keyboardist Michael McGinty, bassist Kevin Kelley, drummer Joe Trump, saxophonist Loren Cowen, and trumpeter Allan Kalik.
