Josh Makosky — a talented if still under-the-radar Portland guitarist, songwriter and vocalist making his Waterfront debut this year — came from a musical family: his grandpa toured the Southern circuit while in the Air Force and at one point played with Hoagy Carmichael’s Big Band. Josh started on piano at five, switching to guitar at 10, playing weddings and parties by the time he was 12, and eventually joining the Portland blues scene in 2011. Josh has played and toured with Ben Rice, Naomi Tatsuoka, the Lucky Losers and Chad Rupp among numerous others.
Combining influences and elements of rock, funk, R&B, and even a sprinkling of pop, Josh released an all-original blues-rock album with bandmate Rich Staats, under the band name ‘Love Sloth’, in 2017. Today you can find Josh playing under his own name doing both acoustic and electric shows around the PNW. His current band includes Calen Uhlig, bass; Alexander Grant, drums; Nathan Mayers, guitar; Ben Partain, keys; and Matt Sulikowski, saxophone, to make for a firey show.
