Adia Victoria

Day 3

Main Stage

2:00 PM

Adia Victoria is a daughter of the South, a born South Carolinian who makes her home in Nashville. Stories and sounds of the South find their way into her music, into her lyrics and chords. During the writing process of her most recent release, A Southern Gothic, she listened to Alan Lomax’s old field recordings, to the ways Black folk made music from and with the land. The result is a project that fits perfectly into Victoria’s catalog and the rich legacy of Black Southern storytelling. The young artist has already earned great respect from peers and critics.  Rolling Stone describes her as “PJ Harvey covering Loretta Lynn at a haunted debutante ball.” Her live performances are described by Wondering Sound as “furious and feral, and American Songwriter calls her stage presence “commanding.”  And T Bone Burnett says, “Adia Victoria sings on an arc between Memphis Minnie and Sojourner Truth.”
