Perfect festival weather, a high-powered lineup, committed sponsors, enthusiastic volunteers and generous blues fans helped make the 2013 Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival a sensational success.

The Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, presented by First Tech Federal Credit Union, raised a record-breaking $1,315,000 through donations at the gate as well as purchases of special passes and DME blues cruise tickets, exceeding the festival’s $1 million goal.  Read more.

Empty Bowls fight hunger

Blues fans will find more than music at the 2013 Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, presented by First Tech Federal Credit Union, July 4 to 7. They’ll also find beautiful, hand-crafted pottery at the Oregon Potters Association Empty Bowls booth.

Empty Bowls symbolizes hunger and poverty faced by people throughout the world. Originally created by a group of Michigan potters in 1991, Empty Bowls is now a national effort and an important fundraiser at the Waterfront Blues Festival.  Read more.

Oregon Food Bank’s Waterfront Blues Festival, Thursday, July 4, through Sunday, July 7,  in Portland, Ore., grows more sensational each year. 

“Our 2013 festival promises to be huge and absolutely sensational,” said Laura Golino de Lovato, director of development, Oregon Food Bank.

The first event of the 26th annual Waterfront Blues Festival is an early-evening DME Hoodoo Moon Blues Cruise, Wednesday, July 3, featuring Joe Louis Walker, who was recently inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame; Tad Robinson Band with Alex Schultz; Too Slim; and Portland’s popular Ellen Whyte Sextet.  Read more.

Amazing performances, perfect festival weather, enthusiastic volunteers, committed sponsors and generous blues fans helped make the 2011 Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival the most successful ever.

“The 24th annual Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, presented by First Tech Credit Union, broke all records,” announced Rachel Bristol, CEO, Oregon Food Bank.  “As we close one fiscal year and begin another, facing a growing need and declining food supplies, the Festival gives us a tremendous boost in taking on these challenges.”

2009 Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival raises food, funds to help fight hunger
Final tally exceeds goal

PORTLAND, Ore. – Stellar performances, enthusiastic volunteers committed sponsors and generous blues fans helped make the 22nd Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, presented by First Tech Credit Union, a success.

Blues fans donated more than $479,343 at the gate. This year, the festival also offered blues fans new ways to increase their donations by buying special passes. Special passes purchased online added $65,295 to festival coffers, enabling the Oregon Food Bank to exceed its $500,000 goal with total donations of $544,638.


Keb' Mo' to headline opening night, July 2
Etta James cancels West Coat tour due to illness
PORTLAND, Ore. (June 27, 2009) – The 2009 Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival is pleased to announce that Grammy Award-winning Keb' Mo' will headline opening night, Thursday, July 2, of the 2009 Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, presented by First Tech Credit Union. He will replace Etta James, who has canceled her entire West Coast tour due to illness.
